Al-Balqa Applied University (BAU) was established on 25 March 1997 as a public university by The Royal Decree on August 22 of 1996. The first academic year began on 1997/1998. BAU is a member of the Higher Education Council in Jordan and a member of the Federation of Arab as well as Islamic and International Universities.
BAU is focusing on high-quality applied education and technology to provide stimulating competitive environment for creativity, innovation, research, development, and leadership achieving sustainable development and a knowledge-based economy on applied university and intermediate university education.
BAU includes (18) intermediate college and university colleges, six colleges -faculty- at the university center in Salt, and twelve other colleges- distributed across most of governorates of the Kingdom (such as Princess Rahma University College, Al- Hosun University College, Ajloun University College, Princess Alia University College, Aqaba University College, Amman University College, Irbid University College, Zarqa University College, Al- Salt College, Karak College, Ma’an College and Shobak College) .
The University awards certificates in the academic degrees: intermediate university degree, bachelor’s, higher diploma, masters, doctorate degree and an associate degree, with a capacity of 50,462 and about 150,902 graduates.
At the level of the master's program there are(11) majors, (2) in the professional diploma, (52) at the bachelor's degree and (117 ) at the level of intermediate university certificate .
BAU has the following faculties: Medicine, Applied Sciences, Engineering, Technological Agriculture, Planning and Management. The faculty of graduate studies has many master programs such water, agriculture and water management and desalination engineering.
