UJ tops Jordan in Webometrics Ranking

Body

The University of Jordan (UJ) has maintained the first place among Jordanian universities, according to the new edition of Webometrics classification of world universities and academic institutions, released last Thursday.

UJ has been ranked 13 in the Arab world and 1878 in the world, given that more than twenty thousand universities were evaluated.

The Webometrics ranking depends in determining the best universities in the world based on the web presence and impact of the university on the basis of four criteria. The first criterion is Scholar which represents the number of publications being collected by Google Scholar database (15%), the second criterion is the web size of the University which is the number of pages recovered from search engines (20%), third is the number of external links (50%), and the forth one is the rich files which represents the number of different types of electronic files (15%).

"The University is considerably paying attention to its Website as it represents a interface of the university and provides an audience of students, faculty, staff and those interested with information and services they need," said Prof. Hala Khyami-Hourani, Vice President for Research and Graduate Studies.

Khyami added that the classification is an indication of the progress and development of the Website in terms of content and services, and a motivation for further work to develop the web presence of the University by sensing the needs of the users.

Khyami thanked all those who contributed to this achievement; including the Higher Follow-Up Committee for the Website, Accreditation and Quality Assurance Center, Computer Center, King Abdullah II School for Information Technology, assistant deans for quality affairs and websites liaison officers, urging them to exert more efforts to reach more advanced ranks.

It note worthy that the University, in its pursuit to reach the universality, has adopted alongside the Webometrics ranking, the (QS) World University Ranking and seeks to achieve advanced positions on this scale.
