The University of Jordan has kept its first place amongst the Jordanian public and private universities according to the Ranking Web (Webometrics) which is one of the largest academic ranking of Higher Education Institutions.
UJ is ranked (9) at the level of Arab universities, jumping 7 positions compared with the previous classification. Globally, it is ranked (1507) of twenty one thousand Universities listed, jumping (168) positions.
Yarmouk University is ranked second nationally and (18) regionally while Jordan University of Science and Technology came in third place at the level of Jordanian universities, and in the three and twentieth place at the level of Arab countries.
The President of the University of Jordan, Prof. Ekhalif Tarawneh, expressed his satisfaction for this achievement, which showed a few months of working hard within UJ's strategic vision, and proved its excellence and ability to compete the prestigious universities.
"The university seeks to occupy a prominent place globally through the development of a strategic plan extends for five years, focused on quality assurance in works, promoting scientific research, the harmonization of disciplines with the labor market and the confirmation of social responsibility, which will make many achievements in various field”, Prof. Tarawneh said.
Prof. Tarawneh stressed that UJ's achievements will be done due to the efforts of all its loyal sons, asserting its active role in the renaissance of Jordan and its true contribution to the progress and development at the global level, despite the challenges and difficulties.
The President of the University thanked all those who contributed to this achievement starting from Accreditation and Quality Assurance Center, Computer Center, Web Division, King Abdullah II School for Information Technology, assistant deans for quality assurance and liaison officers, calling them to make more efforts in order to reach more advanced and distinctive ranks.
It is should be noted that Webometrics depends on four criteria that Measure the universities’ activities on their websites in order to choose best universities globally.
The first criterion is the number of research studies and reports published electronically on the university website, the second criterion is the size of web pages associated with the university while the third criterion is the number of external links and the ease of access to the Website through search engines and the fourth criterion is rich files which depend on various documents belong to the university.
It is noteworthy that UJ adopted (QS) Ranking along with Webometrics in order to reach prestigious positions globally and it aspires to be one of the best (500) Universities by 2015 and amongst the top (300) Universities at the end of its strategic plan in 2018.
