UNIVAQ counts presently 20.000 students, 644 teachers-researchers, 504 administrative and technical staff. After the reform the 9 Faculties were transformed in 7 Departments which, besides research, provide Bachelor, Master and PhD Programmes in the areas Sciences, Medicine, Engineering, Humanities, Psychology, Economics, Education, Sport Sciences, Biotechnologies. Research is developed in the Departments and in 2 Excellence Centres of Research (CETEMPS, DEWS), 3 interdepartmental Research Centres worldwide known.
The policy aiming to become a reference point for a globalised knowledge world for higher education and research allowed the cooperation with Universities from EU and Third Countries for the full participation in the EHEA and ERA. The centralised “International Project Office” supports academic staff in preparing and managing projects and disseminates results and experiences to the University bodies. Dozens of international projects in the fields of education, research and cooperation provided UNIVAQ with leading competencies and skills . 10 international joint/multiple degrees, 1 EMJM, 11 EMA2, two as coordinator, ASSUR and MAYANET, (target countries in all the continents) together with several Horizon2020, CBHE projects and agreements with institutions from all over the world, contributes to build up an international profile. Quality of teaching and research in all the technical/scientific fields is recognised by the main international rankings (200+ in ARWU and THE WUR, 11° in Italy for High Citations). Research in ICT is developed in the Excellence Research Centre DEWS and represents a milestone, together with the other technological fields and Humanities, for the reconstruction of the huge architectural and cultural heritage of L’Aquila after the earthquake of 2009, considered the sixth art cities in Italy.
Furthermore the international Master Degree in Applied Data Science has been established in cooperation also with Palestinian Universities.
